When Diet, Better Cut Carbs or Fat?

Wheat contains complex carbohydrates, so more slowly broken down into blood sugar so it helps the body's energy metabolism. Which means, longer store energy (Outstanding).

Jakarta When asked to choose, better reduce the intake of carbohydrates or fat when dieting? Well, a new study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine found that an effective way to lose weight is to reduce carbohydrates.

As quoted Womenshealth, Monday (12/15/2014), for this study, researchers from Tulane University randomly involving 148 obese men and women without heart disease or diabetes to follow a diet low in carbohydrate and low-fat diet.

"After one year, participants are low-carb diet to lose about 34 pounds compared to those low-fat diet. A diet low in carbohydrates make fat mass and other cardiovascular risk factors decreased," said the researcher.

But, there is an important note in the research. In the study, researchers suggest a diet only restrict carbohydrate intake to 40 grams per day (about four slices of bread wheat) and told them to eat many grams of fiber.

"Carefully choose the source of carbohydrate is the key. If only reduce white rice, potatoes, refined grains, and drink the weight tends to follow. Instead, you will not be fat just by eating vegetables and fruits," said the study's lead author, professor of nutrition, Lydia A. Bazzano, MD, Ph.D.

Interestingly, this study also showed that fat can actually help with weight loss. "Unsaturated fats are known to reduce heart disease risk factors such as lipid profile and blood pressure."
